Branding the space for adult discovery
Umbreum had a severe case of bad branding. As a startup looking to change the adult metaverse experience,
they had a long way to go to establish their vision and audience.
As part of a binary brand - an adult metaverse and its native currency - I worked to create Umbreum's and Dark Nexus' identities from scratch.
This included visual identity design, social media templates, packaging and merch design.
Identity
Creative Direction
One but two, but really one
Figuring out the way two intertwined entities would work together was not easy. Using connections as a trigger,
I came up with an underlying structure that both marks share.
From there, I set a visual system that would allow this symbiosis to work. Using a primary, secondary and accent system,
the three colours were picked to form a sensual yet bold palette.
The visuals
With the brand palette sorted, I envisioned all the key imagery being bathed by coloured lights.
This turned out to give this chrome effect to real skin textures.
When it came to show off the virtual characters, the Dark Nexus mark was intertwined around them. This
informed how to the social media posts would look like.
